Executive Data Insights

City operations are very complex. Accurate data entry to making decisions that affect all the residents can be a very challenging task, to say the least. We have partnered with and helped modernize this approach. The biggest task was to understand the data and provide a framework that will fit the bill.

Overall Framework

The City’s data lived on-premises and was queried out to cater to various executives and city council needs. We were tasked to modernize this approach. For this task, we proposed the use of Azure Storage, Azure Data Factory(ADF), Azure SQL, and finally serving up this data in Power BI. We presented our case with a framework that not only caters to their current needs but also will provide scalability, high performance, and reliability to our client. During our Proof of Concept demo, we ensured that all their questions were addressed in a manner that is consistent with their requirement.

Executive Dashboard

This dashboard consisted of what is relevant, pertinent, and important to the client. We provided and delivered a dashboard that would provide the city council members with the overall view of all the city projects. This executive dashboard and its underlying reports were an immense help in understanding the city budgeting expenses and helped them narrow down on the areas specific to the current needs. Various insights such as total projects, sub-projects, costs, estimated costs, encumbrances, time to complete, days to complete date, etc. were provided in this highly interactive yet very user-friendly dashboard.

Utilities Dashboard

This was another project that was requested after the success of the executive dashboard. The main pieces of information that needed were current billing cycle info, customer info, future state info, and prediction info. We combined various “what if” scenarios to help them give an idea about their future state.

Technologies Utilized

We extensively used Azure services. The data movement was made possible via ADF. Using self-hosted integration runtimes, we were able to lift and shift the model and associated schema. Along the way, we provided various modifiers to ensure that city is well equipped for scalability. This data was then consumed in Power BI and by performing further enhancements we were able to deliver a truly insightful and informative dashboard.

Revenue Management

Often times with businesses they are faced with challenges and important decisions in selling to the right person, at the right price, and at the right time.  Revenue management uses data-driven tactics to increase revenue and to have a strategized plan for the future.

We have created a Report Dashboard that gave users data insights into their hotel & restaurant in interactive and meaningful visualization.  The dashboard could be analyzed from different angles.  Here are the following ways:

Overview Summary Dashboard

Provides an overview of what was important to the client.  The client requested their data for their income, expenses, costs, gross profit, and net operating income.  It gave an ability to gain insights by the percentage of revenue growth on a daily to yearly basis.  The summary dashboard gave an overview of insights that helped management forecast decline patterns or potential growth. This historical data in interactive visualization help them with being confident in their strategic planning.

Room Analysis Dashboard

Provides further analysis details for their rooms.  It gave detailed insights on their monthly room revenue, year to date revenue, and percentage of the month over month as well as year over year revenue growth and decline.  Our solution gave further details on their Occupancy, Average Daily Rate, and Revenue Per Available Room.  It allowed their management team to not only focus on growth areas but to also “work smarter.”

Restaurant Analysis Dashboard

Provides further analysis details for their restaurant.  It gave detailed insights on their menu and alcohol revenue.  We have presented to the team with robust and interactive insights in helping make invaluable business decisions.  The management team was able to analyze data at different angles from labor costs, menu decisions, forecasting trends, and help in minimizing food waste with proper planning.
